MARI MERENDA
Mari Merenda is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from São Paulo. He began studying music at the age of 4, taking piano, guitar and singing lessons.
At 24 he went viral, conquering his space in the music universe on social media. His videos singing and playing asalato - an African percussion - have had more than 151 million views.
In her artistic journey, Mari already demonstrated an affinity for forró in her studies. Among her most popular videos are reinterpretations of Feira de Mangaio (Sivuca) and Eu Só Quero Um Xodó (Anastácia and Dominguinhos), where Mari explored the rhythm of the northeast in an innovative way with the asalato. In 2022, he released his first album “Crônica” which featured the single “Mulher Corvo” - a song that pays homage to the northeastern cordel and features Recife singer Flaira Ferro.
It was in 2023 that the singer fell even more in love with forró through her body. After a great immersion in dance and different rhythms such as xote, baião, xaxado and coco, Mari developed her show dedicated to forró: “O Canto do Pássaro”. The repertoire includes compositions by big names in forró in Brazil and also features songs written by him.
